The OSU Center for Wellness and Prevention in collaboration with the Autonomic Nervous System Laboratory offers the Lifestyle Management Program for the Autonomic Nervous System Disorders. Succesful management of autonomic disorders often requires lifestyle adjustments at several levels. This 15-week program is primarily designed for the patients suffering from orthostatic intolerance such as: syncope, Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), chronique fatigue, fibromyalgia and orthostatic hypotension. This program includes comprehensive health assessment and personal instruction on initiating safe exercise program to promote endurance and muscle strength, increase orthostatic tolerance through countermaneuvers and improve ability to perform daily activities. In addition, educational program will provide information about implementation of healthy lifestyle habits, nutrition and coping with stress.
This 15-week program includes:
A comprehensive health and lifestyle assessment
All participants in the program will complete the comprehensive health assessment and initial screening.
Exercise Tolerance Stress Test (optional) with cardiovascular monitoring
Exercise Program for Orhtostatic Intolerance
Personalized instruction on initiating and maintaining a safe exercise program to increase orthostatic tolerance and promote endurance, mobility and muscle strength.
Physical countermaneuevers for prevention of orthostatic intolerance
Diet for Autonomic Disorders
Educational sessions provide information on initiating and maintaining a safe exercise program, countermeasures for the prevention of orthostatic intolerance and exercise to promote endurance, mobility, agility and muscle strength.
Psychosomatic sessions will provide information regarding all aspects of chronic disease management, including nutrition, stress management and coping skills.
