Botulinum Toxin Injection Therapy

Botulinum toxin, also known by the brand names Botox® and Myobloc®, is used to treat conditions in which there is over activity of muscle. Conditions benefiting from treatment include Dystonia (abnormal sustained posture), spasticity (such as in MS, stroke and head injury) and blepharospasm/hemifacial spasm (abnormal facial movements). The toxin is effective when injected in small amounts into a muscle because it prevents the normal release of a chemical that allows the muscle to activate. There are possible side effects associated with Botulinum toxin treatment, therefore only a doctor can evaluate if Botulinum toxin injections are the right treatment for you. If you are interested in Botulinum toxin treatment or would like additional information, please contact our office at (614) 688-4647 to arrange for an evaluation with Dr. Karen Thomas.

The Movement Disorders Center is involved in clinical trials for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders. The studies include local OSU trials, cooperative group trials and studies sponsored by pharmaceutical companies.

Clinical trials are an important reason the Movement Disorders Center is able to offer our patients the latest treatments for movement disorders. If you would like information on current and upcoming research trials for movement disorders being conducted at the center, please contact either:
